Album/CD cover Analysis

Conventions of a front Cd cover Consists of a picture/image it may or may not be of the artist.
The artist or the band name.
The title of the Album/Single.
The record label name/logo.

Mark Ronson's Album Version
Looking at this CD cover by this artist Mark Ronson he doesn’t have all the conventions from the list above. He has his name Mark Ronson on the round circle in the top left hand corner of the cover. Viewing this CD cover I believe the genre of the Mark Ronson music is funk rock and Alternative rock. This is because of the rips of the paper that is created in the cover. Looking at this cover I think of the idea of an old poster pasted on the street wall for along period of time. Looking at his head between the ripped paper and his name it is obvious that this album cover has been made to look like this, like feeling of old, from the Genre of music he creates I think his main target audience are people in there late teen trough to people in there early thirties. The word “version” is the albums name and it also connects with his music because all the song on this album is his own version of other artist’s song.

Tinie Tempah's Ablum Disc-Overy

The features that stand out in this album cover is the artist holding a city/sky scrapers in his arms which could suggest that the artist is at a high place in his life and feels he could ‘take over the world’. The artist himself has a light beaming over him, which could imply religion or spirituality; others could suggest that the beam also looks almost like a triangle which could represent something about the artist’s personality or idea about his way of work, also could represent Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of social classes.

Loud by Rihanna
This album is by Rihanna a multi platinum selling artist.Loud is Rihanna's fifth album. As u can tell this Album is Called loud she has represented this on her album cover with the image of the with bright red lipstick and hair, she is trying to make a statement to be noticed also the image is a closeup of the face this is also way to say that she want all the attention on her.throughtout the album and the videos of the songs in the album she is planing to keep her red hair and Outrageous looks and clothes to keep the them of loud going through the whole album. Her video to "Only girl in the world" is mainly focused on her and also the theme of red and drawing attention to herself.(as seem below)

Eminem's Album Relapse
Looking at this album cover, it is clear that he has used all of the conventions expected on an album cover, for instance it contains a primary image which infact is the artist himself, a title and the artists name. The main image is a picture of the artist Eminems' head with a relatively blank facial expression whcih represents his mood or state of mind at the time of making the album. In addition, this image is made up of many pills and tables, which has some relation to Eminems recent drug problem which he has only recently left rehabilitation for. The title 'relapse' also ties in with Eminems life problems we can infer from the tittle of the album that due to his break from making music he has relapsed back into his behaviour of rapping and producing. whcih is reflected through his music. Contrary to his earlier albums, this album shows a more developed and matures artist as his songs on this album such as 'not afraid' shows triumph through struggle. In his previous albums such as Encore the album layout comes across as him putting on a show, with long draped curtains in the background of a stage. This entertainment aspect was seen in his past album covers however this most recent album cover i believe shows that he is prepared to show the true person behind the artist based on the image.
